My name is Cyndi Bennett and I am the founder of Mathetes Coaching and also a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. As a Christian, the journey towards healing has been wrought with many struggles in trying to come to terms with how a loving God could allow His child to suffer at the hands of those who were supposed to protect her and how to apply Biblical truth to the painful circumstances of my life. This journey is a messy, but honest one. Even though I have a degree in psychology/counseling, MBA and Masters in Education (Instructional Systems Technology) and am working towards my trauma recovery coach certification, this is not the journey of a famous person or highly polished professional person, this is simply the journey of one disciple of Christ to grapple with the path the Lord has chosen for me and how He is using it to make me more like Him.

I am not going to pretend it is easy. I am not going to remove the struggle and jump to the victorious ending to make it all neat and tidy and make it look like I am super-spiritual. Instead, I want to honestly and authentically document the struggle to constantly live with the symptoms of Complex PTSD from early childhood sexual abuse and developmental trauma. I want to bring you along on the journey with me, especially if you can relate to anything I share here. The Bible says, “Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up”. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10).

I plan on sharing what I have learned about trauma, Complex PTSD, neurobiology of trauma, coping skills, treatment methodology and healing from a Biblical worldview. I also plan on sharing my struggles with coming to terms with some of the harder truths from God’s Word because I know I am not alone in the struggle. I don’t always get it right, but I always strive to be pleasing to the One who loves me so much that He died to save me from my sin and myself.

Why Mathetes Coaching? “Mathetes” is the Greek word for disciple. A disciple is a follower of Christ who learns the doctrines of Scripture and the lifestyle they require. I am still learning, but the Lord has equipped me to “get in the ditch” with others that are struggling and to walk with them a bit. That is my calling.
